Writing about Places – Home, Away & Imagined
Sunday November 23rd from 11am to 4pm with Karen Connelly, author of The Lizard Cage.
Bring your memories of trips taken, places visited, or even imagined and learn techniques to make those memories into stories. How setting becomes character in prose and poetry, how to use suspense, humour, and human error to write well about places, whether they are close by, familiar or new to you. Award-winning author Karen Connelly will lead this class for beginners to accomplished writers in fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
This class, led by instructor Sue Reynolds, is designed to create time and space to devote to your writing projects. Each week, through instruction and in-class exercises, this group focuses on some aspect of the writing craft. Writing prompts are designed to support each writer in his or her process. Participants leave each class with new pieces of writing, optional homework, one on one feedback on manuscripts and a new understanding of techniques designed to improve the writers’ skills.

Each student will be required to have a copy of the basic “The Artist’s Way” book for the class. Books can be ordered from Blue Heron to be picked up on the first night.

This class teaches the process of pen and ink drawing. Perspective, pen line patterns, producing light and shadow, wash and watercolour techniques will be explored under the watchful eye of instructor Ron Peter.
6 Weeks – Monday, September 22nd to November 4th, 1pm to 3pm $150
To maintain a level of excellence a musician must practice, a dancer must dance and an athlete must train. Artists must work at their craft with a similar dedication if they are to maintain their own level of excellence, let alone get better. Life Drawing is calisthenics for the artists’ brain.

Painting from a series of exciting still life subjects, Rosanne Middleton will teach you how to see more… line, shape and shadow. Explore and expand on painting to the light, making colour work for you and adding texture for excitement. Start the fun journey of developing your style and following your instincts while you learn to love painting.

Learn the tricks of the trade in the art of watercolour from David Greaves and make your paintings come alive. Students will learn how to do value sketches and will be introduced to wet in wet techniques for skies, backgrounds, and more. For beginner to advanced students.
6 Weeks – Thursday, Oct.2nd to Nov.6th, 1pm to 3pm $150
This 4 week intensive journey into the power of the medium of watercolours will invigorate and empower the artist, propelling them to new heights of creativity. Each week Marc Gagnon will instruct a 3 hour in-depth investigation into a different technique: Week One – Washes, accents and lines – the three key elements of watercolour. Week Two – Intensive, Reactive and Creative –small format with limited time to create multiple images – spontaneity breeds creativity! Week Three – Dry brush techniques – unique approach for unique results. Week Four – Screen Painting – Paint through fibreglass window screens for fascinating and mysterious results.
