Painting from Photos Master Class with Don Cavin
Andre Durain said “a painting made outdoors is a sacred event.” But there are obvious difficulties for some people in painting “en plein aire.” Using photographic references can help but they are only a tool; a first step in the creative process, not something to be simply copied. Join Don Cavin, as he leads a Master Class on how to impose one’s own knowledge, experience, intuition and “gut-feelings” on a photograph in order to render it useful in creating art.
Saturday June 7th, 9:30am – 4:30pm $95
A picture is worth a thousand words but only when the picture relays a story. It is the story that we yearn for when we look at old photo albums with faces familiar. Yet these faces often register a blank on the memory bank. The stories of our ancestors are the stories we hunger for. Become skilled at listening deeply, telling truthfully, and writing well the stories of ourselves and others. 6 Weeks – Friday, May 16th – June 20th, 12:30 to 3:00 p.m. $180
