On April 23rd, Blue Heron Books will celebrate William Shakespeare’s 400th ‘BirthDeathDay’ with the words of the Bard himself. From 1pm to 2:30pm Kenneth Welsh, Canadian and American film, television and stage actor and self-proclaimed Bard’s Bad Boy, will perform ‘audience choice’ selections from a big list of dramatis personae…if he can remember all the words! Welsh has had a long career as a Shakespearean actor and also wrote and performed the acclaimed off-Broadway cabaret musical Standup Shakespeare.
We also encourage shoppers to brush up on their Shakespeare, as we will be offering 20% off to customers who can correctly answer a Shakespeare-based trivia question at the checkout counter.
What would a “BirthDeathDay” be without cake? But the question remains, can Kenneth blow out the candles on a cake celebrating a 400th birthday? Drop by the studio for a glass of champagne, a piece of cake and the chance to hear Shakespearean actor Kenneth Welsh breathe life into William Shakespeare’s celebrated words.
We are excited to welcome Ted Barris, award winning author and Uxbridge resident, to the Blue Heron Studio on March 22nd to discuss his new book, Fire Canoe!
Fire Canoe tells the true story of steamboating in the Canadian West through the voices of captains, owners, pilots, engineers and passengers.

For anyone who has seen the Instagram account miserable_men, it will be clear that this holiday (aka shopping) season is not a time of joy for many men…but what if it didn’t have to be so? What if no mall walking was necessary, what if it was made easy, fun and entertaining, with a stop at pub, coffee shop or cinema while your gifts are wrapped. Men, do we have your attention now?
What started as an invitation for men to visit the Handmade in Uxbridge sale in the Blue Heron Studio forsome personalized service has grown into a full on evening’s entertainment. The First Guys Shopping Nightwill take place from 6 – 9pm on the 18th of December. The event now encompasses many stores up and down Brock street, and participating shops will make it easy for the ‘last minute shopper’. Armed with the list their significant other has prepared ahead (or not) stores will assist with choices/sizes/flavours/colours whilst the menfolk can drink beer, eat snacks, watch the game, listen to good music and then ‘wrap it all up’ over a latte at Nexus, a beer at Wixan’s or while watching the new Star Wars movie at the Roxy. It doesn’t get any easier.
