us conductors “DZEEEEOOOoo! Just as hard as it is to make a theremin sing so it is hard to pull off a novel like this. But Sean Michaels does it. Us Conductors bridges body and soul, science and art, and like theremin music, it’s of this world and magical at the same time.” —Ismet Prcic, author of Shards
Blue Heron books pic The unpretentious atmosphere of Blue Heron Books with its comfy chairs, wood shelving and creaky floors lends itself to a long slow, browsing session, but under that sleepy atmosphere vibrates a strong pulse. The store has a quaint, old-fashioned look with an up tempo vibe, because there is always something happening. The store is a hub for the community and a bastion of calm chaos where everyone is welcome, even the local dogs that drop by with their owners for a treat from the tin kept under the front counter. 62 Brock St. W., Uxbridge, Ontario. 905-852-4282

Congratulation to Ryan Lamoureaux

ryan lamoureauxRyan Lamoureux is our Youngest Uxbridge Arts Association member and has two pieces hanging in Blue Heron Studio in Uxbridge. He just won the 2013 Art Battle in Peterborough, where he is attending Trent University.
According to Ryan…

The 2013 Art Battle took place on November 21st at the Venue in Peterborough. There were two rounds of paint-battles (each round only 20min long). The top two voted by the crowd from each round moved onto the finals. The four finalists painted a second piece for the final round.
It was an amazing experience to be painting so fast in such a short period of time. The host announced the whole time and the crowd did a count down…so it was pretty intense.
Come the final round, it was crazy to look around at the other artists and realize that I was up against Art instructors and other people who had gone to school studying fine art! I was pretty excited, and now I get to go onto the upcoming provincial art battles and represent Peterborough there!

See what the Elves have cooked up at Blue Heron on Santa Claus Parade Saturday…

bare it for booksCome downtown for the Santa Claus parade and make a day of it. Blue Heron Books has something for everyone on November 30th.

Local television personality, Neil Crone, will be in store for the launch of his new book, Enter Laughing – the collection of his wildly popular newspaper column.

Neil will be joined by Terry Fallis, author of The Best Laid Plans and “Mr. August” of the Bare it For Books 2014 Calendar. Mr. Fallis will be selling and signing his own books, and recommending books by other authors. Author Vikki Vansickle, a former bookseller, will also be in the store offering her own recommendations to Blue Heron customers. And local author Ruth Walker will also join in the bookselling fun. The success of The Great Escape has filled up Ted Barris‘ appointment calendar but the Uxbridge writer may put in an appearance as well.

The Blue Heron Studio will be hosting one of its Art Rocks the Studio exhibitions from 10 – 5pm
