The unpretentious atmosphere of Blue Heron Books with its comfy chairs, wood shelving and creaky floors lends itself to a long slow, browsing session, but under that sleepy atmosphere vibrates a strong pulse. The store has a quaint, old-fashioned look with an up tempo vibe, because there is always something happening. The store is a hub for the community and a bastion of calm chaos where everyone is welcome, even the local dogs that drop by with their owners for a treat from the tin kept under the front counter.

Hello, Blue Heron -
Your customers and local book clubs may be interested to know that a play called “After Mrs. Rochester”, based on the life of author Jean Rhys (who wrote an acclaimed prequel to “Jane Eyre” titled “Wide Sargasso Sea”) gets its Canadian premiere at Toronto’s Alumnae Theatre, Sept 23 – Oct 7.
Read all about it at http://alumnaetheatre.com/1112after.html.
Alumnae Theatre is located at the corner of Berkeley & Adelaide Streets in Toronto.
Tickets range from Pay-What-You-Can (Sunday matinees) to a very affordable $20. Cash only at the door. Reserve seats by phone (416-364-4170, box 1) or e-mail (reservations@alumnaetheatre.com).
There is a paid parking lot two blocks south on Berkeley, just south of Front Street, opposite Canadian Stage.
Dining suggestions nearby: Skal Rockbar (good food, reasonable prices) on Adelaide, across from the theatre) or Betty’s (King Street east of Sherbourne).
We've listened in for years, but this year CBC Books turned the spotlight on Blue Heron Books, naming it the Independent Bookseller for the month of January.

Please tell me when the Books and Authors night is September 2011.
Will you please tell me the expected authors as well?
I just love the evening and want to put it on my calendar (as well as my neighbours).
Thanks
Judy
